Overview

Stand-up paddleboarding has one secret: flat water makes everyone a natural. This lesson runs in the calm, protected waters of Cape Byron Marine Park, which means you spend your two hours learning to glide rather than learning to fall, though a couple of splashes are traditional. A qualified instructor covers the essentials, balance, paddling technique, turning, then stays in the water with you as the group cruises the coastline. The classroom itself is the selling point: this is a working marine park, and dolphins, turtles and other marine life make regular mid-lesson appearances that stop the whole class. All SUP equipment is included, along with a courtesy bus transfer (about 15 minutes). It's built for complete beginners, doubles as a stealth core workout, and there's a GoPro package if you want your wobbly-to-graceful arc documented. Two hours later you've got a new skill and, statistically, a turtle story.
