Overview

Twenty-odd minutes inland from Byron's beaches, the land folds up into Nightcap National Park and produces something the coast can't: Minyon Falls, a curtain of water dropping more than 100 metres over rhyolite cliffs into a green rainforest valley that looks borrowed from somewhere far more remote. This guided tour takes you through that rainforest to the base of the falls, a walk under palms and ancient trees with a guide filling in the ecology as you go, ending at the amphitheatre where the water lands. Standing at the bottom of a 100-metre fall recalibrates your sense of scale in a way lookout platforms never quite manage. It's a five-hour round trip with pickup arranged from your accommodation, they'll contact you after booking to sort the details. Wear shoes that grip; bring a camera that forgives spray. Byron's hinterland is criminally underrated, and this is its opening argument.

"An amazing 3 hours, we were very fortunate to see whales, dolphins and turtles. The whales breaching in particular were incredible. A number of these only 30 metres from the boat, one whale in particular over an hour must have breached some 40 times, quite amazing something never to forget…"

"Oh my gosh, that was an incredible trip! We spotted between 20 and 30 whales, two adorable sea turtles, and even a playful dolphin. It was like they were putting on a show for us, with their music and breaching. It was an experience we'll never forget!"
