Walking the full base of Uluru is a 10-kilometre commitment in serious heat. The Segway version keeps everything good about it, every face, every fold, every angle of the rock most visitors never see, and deletes the trudge. You drive yourself to the Kuniya carpark near the rock, get a personalised Segway training session (nobody's born knowing; everybody's gliding in minutes), then set off on the full circumnavigation with a guide who stops at key points to unpack the history, geology and Anangu culture of the place. The rock changes character constantly around the lap, smooth flanks, hidden waterholes, textures like poured wax, and this is the only way to see all of it before the heat arrives. It runs early mornings November to March, taking about two and a half hours. Bring your park entry ticket, sunnies and a charged phone, the lap is relentlessly photogenic.
