Moreton Island is the world's third-largest sand island, and it rewards the small-group treatment: with a maximum of ten guests, this tour fits into corners of the island the big rigs skip, and nobody spends the day looking at the back of a stranger's head. It starts with a ferry crossing of the Moreton Bay Marine Park, keep watch for dolphins and turtles, then the 4WD takes over: a swim in the tea-tree-stained water of the Blue Lagoon, the North Point hike to Honeymoon Bay and the surf-splashed Champagne Pools, the coloured sand cliffs at Harpers Rock, and the historic Cape Moreton Lighthouse, whose headland doubles as a natural wildlife-spotting platform, dolphins, turtles and seasonal whales all show up on the ledger. A fresh picnic lunch and cold drink are included, along with guided nature walks throughout. Bring $100pp for the QPWS/ferry fee and fuel levy, paid to your guide on the day.
