Overview

Day trips see Moreton Island at its busiest hour. Staying overnight gets you the version the ferries never meet: the beach at dusk, a campfire under a sky with no light pollution, and first crack at everything the next morning. By day the 4WD safari works through the island's hit list: a guided snorkel around the 15 historic Tangalooma shipwrecks, sandboarding the towering dunes at The Desert and Big Sand Hills, a soak in the tea-tree-stained Blue Lagoon, the Cape Moreton Lighthouse with its wildlife lookout, and Five Hills for the panorama, all connected by 40km of uninterrupted surf-beach driving, with your guide narrating the flora, fauna and history between stops. By night: a wilderness glamping camp 50 metres from Bulwer Beach, with real mattresses, linen, private toilets and hot showers. Most meals and all activity gear are included; just bring $80/day for QPWS and ferry fees, paid to your guide.
