At some point every certified diver does the maths: day trips cost you most of the day getting there and back for two dives. A liveaboard flips the equation. Three days and two nights on Reef Encounter puts you permanently on the outer Great Barrier Reef with up to nine dives, you wake up moored over the site, roll off the back deck, and repeat. Two of those nine are night dives, which deserve their reputation: different creatures, different colours in the torch beam, a reef you thought you knew behaving like somewhere else entirely. The boat rotates through a variety of outer reef locations, and the galley keeps pace, breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert daily, fruit and hot drinks always out, dietaries handled with notice. All dive and snorkel gear is included bar wetsuit hire, and reef levies are in the price. Optional extras, guided dives, nitrox, the Top Deck Club upgrade, are there for divers who like the trimmings.
