The Tully doesn't ease you in. Once your guide has run the safety briefing and you've pushed off into the gorge, it's grade 3 and 4 rapids coming in sets, with World Heritage rainforest hanging over the water while you dig in and paddle like the raft depends on it, because it does. The day runs from Cairns with return transfers: a scenic drive to the top of the Tully River Gorge, gear fitting, then up to three hours on the water working as a crew. Afterwards you refuel with a hearty country-style meal alongside your guide, flicking through the day's photos (available to purchase if you nailed the action shot). No experience needed, training and all equipment are included. Just know there's a $35pp river levy paid on the day, and shoe hire is $5 if you need it. Come ready to get properly wet.
