The hardest part of most reef days is the getting there. Reef Magic solved it with speed and stability: a fast motor catamaran that runs direct from Cairns in just 90 minutes, delivering you to a pontoon moored out on the Great Barrier Reef with the whole day ahead of you. The rhythm is simple: check in at the Reef Fleet Terminal on Spence Street from 8:00am, depart Marlin Jetty at 9:00am, and you're stepping onto the pontoon by 10:30, reef below, platform above, no anchoring dramas or swell-y back decks. Then it's snorkelling on your schedule, off a base that doesn't move. The pontoon format is the pick for anyone who wants maximum water time and minimum boat time, first-time snorkellers especially. Transfers from Cairns City or the Northern Beaches can be added if you'd rather skip the walk to the terminal.
