Overview

A few hours west of Melbourne, the flat paddocks crack open into the Grampians, sandstone ridges, plunging gorges and waterfalls that actually earn the name. This is the big-nature day trip for anyone stuck in the city without a car. The day covers the park's heavy hitters: MacKenzie Falls thundering into its gorge, the Grampians' own Grand Canyon, and lookout after lookout over the ranges. You ride in an air-conditioned bus with upgraded seating, free Wi-Fi, an English-speaking guide and an audio guide in 16 languages, national park fees already covered. It's a 12-hour day, so pack your own food and water, and keep your eyes out the window, kangaroos and birdlife are regulars out here, though the wildlife writes its own schedule.

"Considering the distance from the city and the number of stops, it was a really nice tour, neither too slow nor too rushed. Some parts of the trails required some rock hopping so I recommend wearing shoes with decent traction, but aside from that very nice and easy hikes."
