Overview

Low Isles is what people picture when they say 'coral cay': 55 acres of sand and palms wrapped in a calm, shallow lagoon, sitting apart from the main reef system off Port Douglas. The morning run gets you there by boat from Crystalbrook Marina at 7:30am, before the day heats up and while the light is at its best. You get around two and a half hours to spend how you like: guided snorkelling in the lagoon, where giant green sea turtles are frequent visitors, the glass-bottom boat if you'd rather stay dry, or the guided island walk past the historic lighthouse, the keeper's cottage and the old weather station. Snorkel gear, lycra stinger suits and morning tea are all included, with easy water entry off the back platform or straight from the beach. It's deliberately small-group, so the cay never feels crowded. Back at the marina by 11:30am with a full afternoon still in hand.

"Really enjoyed our AM tour out to low isles. 40 minutes smooth journey out to the island, approximately 30 minutes of guided snorkelling. It was worth having a guide to point out really great spots and we saw 3 turtles which was the highlight for me."

"This tour gets out to the island before any of the other boats so you have a good 20-30 mins as the only tour group on the island. … After these tours we still had a good hour or so to snorkel independently."
