Overview

Most skydives end in a paddock. This one ends on a beach, canopy open, Whitsundays spread out blue and green beneath you, and sand under your feet at Midge Point when conditions permit (high tide or offshore winds mean the backup zone nearby, same views). The ride up is half the show: the islands scattered below you all the way to jump altitude, then the door, then up to 60 seconds of freefall before the parachute opens and everything goes quiet for a five-to-seven minute float back down over the coast. Free return transfers run from your Airlie Beach hotel or the meeting point, and the whole experience takes around six hours of your day, of which you'll remember roughly every single second. If you're only doing one jump on the East Coast, the one with a beach landing makes a strong case.

"Once the hatch is opened, everyone jumps in 5-10 seconds increments so there's not much time to wait once you get up there. … You get a great view of the sea and also land on the beach."
