K'gari is the largest sand island on Earth, and it packs an unreasonable amount into one coastline: a beach that's legally a highway, a shipwreck rusting photogenically in the surf, freshwater lakes clearer than most pools. This tour threads all of it into a single day from Rainbow Beach. You travel in a purpose-built 4WD with an experienced guide, small-group style. The day rolls up the 75 Mile Beach highway to the SS Maheno wreck, floats you down the crystal current of Eli Creek, and lands you at Boorangoora (Lake McKenzie) for the swim that ends up on every Australian trip's highlight list. Tide permitting, you'll also walk the ancient rainforest at Pile Valley and Central Station along Wanggoolba Creek. Keep watch for wangari (dingoes), dolphins and dugongs.
