Overview

Habibi has been working the Whitsundays for more than twenty years, and it shows in all the right ways: an 18-metre steel ketch motor-sailor whose crew know exactly which sheltered cove to anchor in, which reef is firing this week, and how to make strangers into a crew by the first dinner. The two days cover the essentials properly, Whitehaven Beach, the bushwalk up to Hill Inlet Lookout, and two to three snorkelling stops at pristine reef spots around the islands, gear and crew guidance included. Sailing instruction is on offer for anyone who wants to earn their passage, and the onboard entertainment has range: water volleyball at anchor, a DJ when the evening calls for it, storytelling when it doesn't. You sleep in a private double, twin or single cabin, no dorm-style bunk lottery, and the food is honest and plentiful: Aussie BBQ, cold meat platters, fruit-and-cereal breakfasts, snacks and afternoon tea. Pitched at a social 14–45 crowd, it's the overnighter that feels like a mate's boat.
