Overview

Abel Tasman's coastline was designed for kayaks, sheltered coves, granite headlands, water clear enough to watch your own shadow on the sand below. This trip is Wilsons' signature take on it, pairing a scenic cruise with a properly guided paddle at the ratio that matters: maximum eight guests per guide. The Vista Cruise runs you from Kaiteriteri to Torrent Bay, where a full safety briefing gets everyone comfortable in stable double kayaks. Then it's paddling through coves and estuaries to a sheltered golden beach for a picnic lunch (pre-order the NZ$30 picnic or buy onboard), before pointing toward Pinnacle Island and its New Zealand fur seals, weather permitting. Blue penguins and seabirds make regular cameos, and if the wind cooperates on the return leg, the guides hoist kayak sails and you ride home like a small, smug flotilla. All gear is included: spray jackets, skirts, dry bags, buoyancy vests, even gloves and booties in the cooler months. Note the NZ$14 environmental access fee at checkout.
