The Bay of Islands has 144 islands, and the mistake most visitors make is only looking at them. This cruise gets you in and on the water: snorkelling gear and paddleboards are included, and the itinerary builds in two island stopovers, Roberton Island among them, where you can swim, walk the tracks or just claim a beach. The cruising between is no filler either. You thread through the islands and along the Cape Brett Peninsula to the Hole in the Rock, the bay's famous sea-carved archway, with commentary weaving together the history, ecology and Māori culture of one of New Zealand's most storied coastlines. Dolphins, penguins and seals are frequent company, this is working wildlife water.
