Mt Cook 10,000ft Skydive

Skydive Mt. Cook runs the only helicopter-lifted jump in New Zealand: 10 minutes to altitude with Aoraki, Lake Pukaki and Tekapo filling the windows, then up to 30 seconds of freefall over all of it.

Overview

Every skydive has a flight up. This one has a helicopter, the only heli-lifted skydive operation in New Zealand, and a view manifest that reads like a South Island postcard rack: Aoraki/Mt. Cook, Lake Ohau, Pukaki and Tekapo, all of them that impossible glacial blue. The rhythm is short and sharp: roughly 10 minutes climbing to 10,000 feet while the Mackenzie Country spreads out below, then the exit, up to 30 seconds of freefall, and a three-to-five minute canopy ride where the tandem master steers and you just look. There is a lot to look at. It's Kiwi owned and operated with a maximum of six per load, and the whole thing takes about three hours of your day. Photo and video packages are add-ons, and given the backdrop, skipping them takes real discipline.
